Trinket Tuesday: King George V letter to US troops (1918)

In honor of the recent wedding at Windsor Castle, I present to you a letter written by King George V on Windsor Castle stationery to the recently-arrived US troops. This letter was on display during a WWI exhibit at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.  The original letter is in Great Britain, but the Library of Congress has a copy that once belonged to a WWI veteran.

The letter is poignant and heart-breaking. Great Britain had been at war since 1914 and suffered such great losses by the time the US entered the war in 1917.  I can only imagine how relieved the King must have felt when the US finally joined the cause! Heart-breaking!

Trinket Tuesday is where I share some of the lovely things I discover during my travels, research or around town. All pictures are my own (unless I state otherwise). I hope you enjoy!
